HAPPY 1ST BIRTHDAY JACK!!!!!

One year ago today our family went from three to four! It was one of the most wonderful days of my life! As most of you know I am incredibly nostalgic, but I promise to try to keep this brief.

July 16th, 2004 and August 7th, 2008 are two of the best days of my life! There is nothing I love more than the experience of having a baby! That day is just incredible! To finally see this little being that you have felt and watched move inside of you, and dreamed about for 9 long, agonizing months, well, it's nothing short of miraculous! And to hold them in your arms for the first time, it's true joy! I am just blown away that it has been one full year since Jack came into our lives, it just does not seem possible! For now I can remember every detail of the night before, and the morning of, his birth. In one way it seems like yesterday, but in other it feels like ages ago! Isn't that always the case?!

Here is a little stroll (or long trip) down memory lane....

The day our lives really changed... having two at home! ;)

And here's how our sweet bundle of joy has grown over the last 12 months...
One month old

Two months

Three months (this is the best I had - scary!)

Four months

Five months

Six months

Seven months

Eight months

Nine months

Ten months

Eleven months

Our big one year old!!!!!

Jack has had a crazy busy month making up for lost time! Here are some of the things he is up to now....

He is eating us out of house and home
He is soooooo big!
He loves clapping, he can't do it without smiling!

And finally he is crawling... yea!

Shortly followed by climbing the stairs.

And pulling up on anything and everything! I can definitely see the little boy in him coming out! He will NOT sit still. Diaper changes are awful for all of us. Denny and I try to wrestle him while he screams, and Olivia covers her ears. He is into everything he shouldn't be, like dry erase markers, electrical cords, outlets, the stairs, turning on the water in the tub, etc... I would say his favorite activity is eating, taking a bath, or throwing. He'll throw anything... his sippy cup, food, toys, and appropriately, balls! In those regards he is completely different from his big sis, as you would expect! He has several words, and is also mimicing some of the things we say. My favorite is "thank you". He'll give me a toy and I'll say thank you, and then I'll give it back to him and he says, "thay-thu". Another precious thing is when he "gives" a kiss. He doesn't actually give a kiss, but he makes the sound. It is too cute for words!

I could go on and on about my precious boy, but I will sum it up by saying that I love his spirit and super fun personality! He definitely keeps us smiling! I pray that the coming year brings us just as much happiness and fun as his first! We love you so very much Jack!!!! Happy, happy birthday!

Our Little Fish

Olivia was blessed this summer to take swim lessons with an amazing teacher, Ms. Nancy! She came highly recommended by Summer and I was anxious to get Olivia started. Which we did as soon as we got back from our vacation! I had really high hopes for her this year, as so many of her good friends are such proficient swimmers. It has been hard to watch her sit on the sidelines so to speak and miss out on all of the fun. She is such a timid little girl, which I know if that trait sticks, I will appreciate it in high school! But as for now, it is sometimes frustrating! When we started the first of our 2 weeks of lessons Olivia wouldn't even hardly put her face in the water! I knew we had some big strides to make!

I could not be more proud of my little fish and I could not be a bigger fan of Ms. Nancy! She is one of the most positive and encouraging teachers, not to mention just a sweet person! Olivia was never scared or afraid to come to lessons... although there were some tears as Ms. Nancy pushed her! But in the end it so paid off! Olivia can now swim the width of the pool and what's even better is she enjoys it! It may be next year before she is jumping in, swimming and coming up for breaths, but I will take what we can get! She has confidence and that is so important!

Here she is swimming at our community pool all by herself... we weren't even in the water!!! Yea!!!! We are so proud of you Olivia!

The Sprinkler Park

A few weeks ago, my mom came over to visit to celebrate Olivia's birthday and Olivia chose to go to the sprinkler park to do so! She had fun and Jack really enjoyed it too!

I wasn't sure how he would take to it, but knowing that he loves water, I had high hopes! And thankfully he loved it! He just sat and played with one set of sprinklers coming up out of the ground, he was quite fascinated!

This is the best pic I could manage of both of them!

Just a side note... I accidentally hit a button as I was uploading the pics and they are on some funky format, it was not intentional! :)

To like or not to like

So little Jack has a love/hate relationship with strawberries. He likes them, but when he gets the tart ones, watch out! I must have gotten a bad pint recently and one day while he was munching on some for lunch, was lucky enough to capture his reaction! I shot these one after the other, so there are a lot of pictures, but I thought they were funny and worth sharing! :)

From the get-go you can see the concern on his face, he is not so sure about these sweet, yet bitter red berries...
Down the hatchet!

He seemed to recover just fine

Nothing playing with a few toys can't fix!

The Big Bash

This year for her birthday Olivia wanted to have a slumber party! Being the wise mommy that I am, I quickly suggested we have an "almost" slumber party! Or in Olivia's terms, a pretend slumber party! Here were the invitations...

Olivia awaiting her guests!
Eight of her closest friends enjoying a pizza dinner, complete with Pirate's Booty and fruit kabobs!

A little silly string and running around outside to burn off some energy!
After we came inside the girls were pretty sweaty. It was 6 p.m. in July, in Texas after all! So we went upstairs to change into PJ's!

Then it was back down for cupcakes!

I love Olivia's expression here, I can just see the fun and excitement in her eyes! This little one starts counting down her birthday they day after she celebrates her last!

Finally it was time to retire to the media room for present opening and a showing of Thumbelina! We actually managed to get all 9 girls still and quiet, if only for 20 minutes!

The gang!
Campbell, Ayva, Emma, Olivia, Kennedy
Macy, Ally, Maci, Casey

Olivia had SO much fun and the girls were surprisingly really, really good! There were no arguments, they all got along so well! Denny and I were so shocked at how smooth it all ran and how quickly 3 hours flew by! Olivia is so very blessed to have such sweet, sweet girlfriends!
